So I came home a couple of months ago and find a notice posted to my
tiny rental apartment door - Extell Development Company has bought the
5-story walk up I live in. I check them out on Google and learn
that amongst other real estate conquests they have bought from Donald
Trump 1.6 Billion - yes I said BILLION $$$$$'s worth of property
- oh - only across the park - that would be Central Park to those that
don't live in the Big Apple - just West 59th Street up to West 64th
Streets. That they buy up buildings only to kick the tenants out
- DEMOLISH the homes of people to build huge expensive condominum high
rises. This is happening all over the city ! ! !
What could they want with this little building? Well, I found out
that they already bought the building directly behind mine, and the
building around the corner, and they plan to get all the buildings over
here and kick everybody out.
They have lobbyists. THEY HIRE COMPANIES TO RESEARCH THE TENANTS
TO FIGURE OUT THE BEST WAY TO APPROACH THEM TO GET THEM TO LEAVE !
I understand they will go to great lengths to get friendly with
tenants. Here, already somebody has been paid $2,000.00 and
moving expenses to leave. And he left ! Just like that
! Another one across the hall is letting them look for any
apartment for her and she will go. The man upstairs just learned
when his lease is up for renewal in October it will go up another
$300.00 - and it is so high already that he is now forced to seek
another home and he's looking around.
When I look up apartments in the area I was astounded to find that the
rents have gone up sky high. $2,000.00 is typical for a tiny
studio in this neighborhood. We're talking RENTAL. Something way beyond what I can afford.
